The owners of Newberry Yoga Susan Dorton and Jane Wyatt met in a 200-hour yoga training in 2008. They became close through their class and learned the eight limbs of yoga. On the last day of their training, they made a pact to own a studio together. Unfortunately, plans were delayed until they met again at their 500-hour training in April of 2018. This time their pact was being put to action and officially opened on September 26, 2018.
Susan Dorton has practiced yoga for nearly 20 years. She received her 200-hour instructor certification in 2008 through yoga fit, 300-hour instructor certification in 2018 through Asheville Yoga Center, and registered with the Yoga Alliance. She also started the yoga program at Newberry County Memorial Hospital Wellness Center and taught classes at Newberry YMCA and Newberry College.
Jane Wyatt began has been practicing since the early 2000s. She received her 200-hour instructor certification in 2008 through yoga fit, 300-hour instructor certification in 2018 through Asheville Yoga Center, and registered with the Yoga AllianceSherecentlyy retired from Palmetto Health Heart Hospital as Business Manager of the Cardiac Cath Lab and has attended various yoga training and workshops around the world.
Jane Wyatt is from Prosperity and Susan Dorton is a native Newberrian, they chose Newberry because they say “it’s home and there are so many exciting things happening now in the Historic district! The time was right for Newberry to have a real yoga studio”. Their mission is to promote healthy and active lifestyles through yoga in Newberry.
