Everything HOLIDAYS in Newberry: Part 1!

With Christmas just around the corner, Newberry is gearing up for a great holiday season. I know that all of us here at Newberry Now are super excited for Christmas. There are tons of events happening all over the county to get you in the spirit, too! We can't wait to see everyone out in the community this winter spreading holiday cheer! Here are some of the awesome events Newberry has to offer:


Downtown Newberry Holiday Open House Kick off your holiday shopping downtown on Thursday, November 14th from 5-8pm, as local business adopt special hours. Friday and Saturday doors will be open from 10am-7pm for you to swing by, as well as on Sunday from 1-6pm. Businesses will be offering holiday specials, door prizes, and drawings along with other special events! We don't plan on missing these sweet deals!


Twas The Night Before Christmas All through the Opera House children were laughing, even the adults and their spouse! Get tickets for Ken Ludwig's comical take on the classic poem, which involves a cast of kooky characters that are sure to make you smile. We can't wait for it! Newberry Gingerbread Competition Think you've got what it takes? Enter the gingerbread competition and see how you do! Applications are due by November 27th and all ages are welcome. Entries have to be ready by December 5th, when they will be judged by a select group. Awards will be held Saturday morning, December 7th, at 9am where the winners will be announced after breakfast with Santa! Then, all the entries will be on display until the 23rd, which you can view through the windows at all times, but can see up close if you stop by the Newberry Arts Center during regular business hours! Main Street Lights: Community Tree Lighting Let's all gather in front of Community Hall of Friday, November 22nd to light the community tree and enjoy the first friday of the holiday festivities. Starting at 5pm, the Southern Victorian Society will be caroling in front of the steps, and you know we'll be with them singing along! The official lighting ceremony will take place at 6:15 pm, which will give everyone time to admire this year's tree, all merry and bright, and take pictures in front of it. Then, at 7:30pm, there will be a FREE showing of The Polar Express at the Ritz Theater. Who doesn't love a free movie?


A Very Berry Christmas Downtown Newberry is a magical place during the holiday season. Every Friday in December until Christmas (Dec. 6, 13, 20), Santa will be taking a tour of Newberry before settling Downtown for the North Pole Lights at 6pm. Join us in Memorial Park for miraculous snowfall, then take pictures with Santa and enjoy a free craft and storytime with Mrs. Claus. Whitmire Jaycees' Annual Tree Lighting Join the Jaycees in downtown Whitmire for the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting on December 6th at 6:30pm. Enjoy the fun and fellowship of the event this holiday season!


Christmas Tea at The Gallery For a unique holiday experience, join The Gallery at one of their two seatings, either 11am or 1:30 pm, December 7th for a Christmas Tea. They will be serving English Tea offerings with a Christmas Theme. Visit the link below to find out more about what they'll be serving. Talk about a cool Christmas experience!


The Best Christmas Pageant Ever In this hilarious Christmas classic, a couple struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the Herdman kids--probably the most inventively awful kids in history. This play will be performed two weekends in a row, December 6-7 and December 13-14. Each performance will take place at 7pm at The Ritz Theater. Newberry's Tuba Christmas Join us at the Newberry Opera House on December 7th at 3pm for a unique performance of Christmas music, involving up to 50 performers of horn instruments and a chance for community singing, as well. This event is open and free to the public, so come enjoy the full and rich sounds of Christmas before the parade downtown! If you'd like to participate, find more information at the link below.
