Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands

This weeks Meet a Business Monday is Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands. Their services help victims of sexual violence all over the Midlands. Read below to learn about their services and how you can volunteer and donate TODAY!

Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands (STSM) is a private, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization, incorporated in 1983. One of 15 rape crisis centers in South Carolina, STSM advocates for and supports survivors of sexual assault and abuse in Richland, Lexington, Newberry, Clarendon, and Sumter counties and educates the community to identify and prevent sexual violence.

They will achieve their vision of healthy survivors thriving in a community free of violence through their three-tiered solution:

  • Community Awareness

  • Primary Prevention Education

  • Advocacy for Survivors

Their mission states that STSM advocates for and supports survivors of sexual assault and abuse and educates the community to identify and prevent sexual violence.

As sexual violence in this world increases, STSM ensures that services are provided to people regardless of race, ethnicity, class, sexual and gender identity, religious affiliation, age, immigration status, and ability. Because survivors of sexual violence may experience the abuse in culturally specific ways, their counselors, educators, and advocates have received training to support survivors who represent the diverse communities represented in the Midlands.

This includes, but is not limited to:

  • LGBTQ Survivors

  • Survivors with Disabilities

  • Deaf & Hard of Hearing Survivors

  • Hispanic and Latino Survivors

  • Immigrant Survivors

  • Survivors with Limited English Proficiency

  • Survivors of Human Trafficking

  • Teen Survivors

  • Survivors Serving in the Military

  • Male Survivors

  • Trafficking Survivors

This world is not perfect, but STSM envisions a world where:

  • Survivors are respected, valued, and their voices are heard.

  • We boldly lead the effort to end sexual violence in our communities.

  • We are diligent in meeting the two critical components of the mission: directly supporting survivors through their healing and educating the community-at-large.

  • We operate collaboratively, with other organizations, for the greater good
